San Bruno Mountain – San Francisco Peninsula, CA

Right at the threshold of San Bruno and Daly City, sits a towering mountain, where, situated at its flat precipice, lie a handful of dazzling trails. While at their high points you can see from the Cow Palace to Highway 101, when the trails dip deeper into the mountain, its forestry and lack of urban noise could convince a hiker that he’s stepped back a hundred years or so back to before the San Francisco Peninsula was touched by Euro-American explorers.

The trails all range from a mile to three, and include areas that hide the metropolitan peninsula away from view, leaving one to imagine how a pre-tech Bay Area may have looked before civilization.
